Chevy Volt Safety Ratings Point of Pride For Jim Ellis Chevrolet

Chevy VoltChevy Volt Tops Competitor Nissan Leaf in U.S. Insurance Industry Crash Tests

General Motors Chevrolet Volt passed the U.S. insurance industry’s toughest frontal crash test, while Nissan
Motor Company’s battery-electric Leaf could not make the grade. The electric cars were part of a larger group
of small cars run into a barrier meant to simulate a tree, or other car, crushing about one-fourth of the car’s front
end. The test is tougher than U.S. government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration head-on

For an “acceptable” or “good” rating, cars have to be engineered to preserve space around the head and torso,
have seat belts that keep a driver from pitching too far forward, and plenty of air bags to mitigate crash forces.
Chevy Volt made the grade and received an “acceptable” rating during this crash test. The Nissan Leaf received
a “poor” rating on the same crash test. See the results at

Jim Ellis Chevrolet is proud to be a supplier for the Chevy Volt and to be #1 in Georgia in Volt sales and #2 in
the Southeast Region. They are also the only dealer in Georgia with a six bay solar EV charging station for the
convenience of customers.

Volt is one of the leaders in the Green Car industry and we are happy to be able to provide our customers this
fantastic brand and charging convenience,” said Mark Frost, General Manager of Jim Ellis Chevrolet.

Jim Ellis Buick GMC Mall of GA sponsors local HS Play

Jim Ellis Buick GMC Mall of Georgia will sponsor this year’s Annie stage show presented by Mill Creek High School in Hoschton Georgia. It is Mill Creek’s 1st year presenting this show and they hope to be recognized by the Shuler Hensley Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards – a prestigious award recognizing excellence in high school theater programs.

Donations were made to help design parts of their sets – one in particular was a set of oil drums used in various scenes that were modified with fake flames for the people of Hooverville to stand around warming their hands.

The teachers and staff both agree that the kids have worked very hard this year and have had to overcome obstacles in order to make this musical a great success. They share, “It takes a community to make our clubs successful as it takes a village to raise a child.”

We wish them luck and look forward to a great show.

Atlanta Airshow and Spring Corvette Show

Jim Ellis has been sponsoring the DeKalb Peachtree Airport’s Good Neighbor Day Open House and Airshow for years now and boy is it fun!  Acrobatic airplanes, formation aircraft, military aircraft, and warplanes on display and doing “death defying” feats!  And of course, the hottest cars from the Jim Ellis Automotive stable will be there, all brands!  A number of cars that “fly” will be there: ZR1 Corvette, ZL1 580HP Camaro, Audi R8, the new Porsche 911S, Hyundai Genesis, the Buick Regal Turbo GS, the all-new VW Beetle, and all of the cool, new Mazdas!

The triple jet engine Flashfire Truck will thunder down the runway at obscene speeds (Bring your earplugs!). People will be jumping out of planes and there will be almost 100 vendors selling an interesting variety of goods including food. And there is a rumor that the “drag race” between a Corvette ZR1, a Porsche GT2, and an Audi R8 will make a comeback at this year’s show. Or possibly, a Corvette ZR1 will be racing a Pitts acrobatic biplane?  Hmm. Let’s see.  A 638HP car weighing 3,200 pounds racing a 350HP, 1,600 pound airplane.  Which do you think will win?  You’ll have to show up and see for yourself!

The show is from 12-5pm at DeKalb Peachtree Airport.  Parking is $5 but otherwise there is no fee to attend. Coincidentally, the Jim Ellis Chevrolet Annual Spring Corvette Show at the Chevy dealership is scheduled for the same day from 10am to 2pm.  Vintage Corvettes in the morning and cool airplanes in the afternoon?  Now that’s a fun day!

The Best 2012 Superbowl Commercials For Automakers?

The 2012 Superbowl featuring the New York Giants and the New England Patriots was arguably one of the best games ever in the history of Superbowls. But many folks watch the game to don thing and one thing only. Watch the commercials and decide yourself!

For the Jim Ellis family of dealerships, it was a great night of advertising. But we’ve argued amongst ourselves to try and figure out just which one of the brands truly had the best Superbowl commercial and there’s still no definitive answer.

Was it the pair of commercials from Volkswagen including a pack of dogs howling the Imperial march from Star Wars (The Bark Side)?

Or their tale of the pooch who wanted to shed a few pounds so that he could fit through the doggy door to chase down the red VW (The Dog Strikes back)?

Some say Chevrolet’s Apocalypse video was the best even though Ford was up in arms over it.

Hyundai also came to the table with not 2, but 3 commercials including the Veloster versus the Cheetah video…

the chorus of singing Hyundai employees encouraging people to never say never.

and the employee who saved his boss’s life with his Genesis Coupe.

So, we guess we’ll have to leave it up to you to decide. Which is your favorite?

The Future and End of Saab

While many people are still holding a candle for Saab, the reality is that they’ve pretty much come to the end of the road. And unfortunately, it’s not a road untraveled for Saab as they experienced the same financial difficulties a couple of years ago before Spyker came into the fray to save the Swedish automaker. So it’s not surprising that many people are looking into the horizon waiting for the “save” once again, but this time, it doesn’t look like it’s coming. While there is some interest from Chinese investors, the terms of which just can’t be reached.

Saab has a rich and incredible heritage for making amazing vehicles. Jim Ellis Saab has prided ourselves at being lucky enough to have shared that heritage and ingenuity with driver enthusiasts around the state of Georgia and beyond. But now that Saab’s flag sits at half mast, we have to prepare for what looks inevitable at this point. So we created this blog post to share where we are currently and how we plan to proceed as a dealership to our past, present and future Saab customers.

To start, for those that are interested in purchasing a Saab, this is definitely the time to acquire one. The discounts offered are incredibly drastic, but it’s important to also know that at the moment, they won’t come with a warranty and must be sold “as is”, but Jim Ellis Saab of Atlanta will still perform the repairs and maintenance items as you would expect. Jimmy Ellis gives the official statement here. You can also find all of the latest news available from SCNA (Saab Cars North America) here.

The gist of it is if you have already purchased a Saab from Jim Ellis Saab (new or Certified Pre-Owned), the dealership will honor the warranty. If you have a Saab that you did not purchase through Jim Ellis Saab, then we’ll do the repairs for you and process the claim for you as we normally would, but you will be asked to pay for the repairs. You would simply hold onto your receipts until they hopefully put a method of reimbursement into play. This is something that’s typically done by the bankruptcy judge, but it hasn’t occurred yet and there are no guarantees that it will.

Needless to say, we are very disheartened that Saab wasn’t able to make any progress in the talks. And that’s not to say that there won’t be before all is said and done, but at this time, it’s not looking that promising.  There comes a time when all you can do is just reminisce and hope for the best.
